    Settlement

Gabe Sassin represented a wife who lost her husband after a major Alabama hospital and its general surgeon failed to timely recognize the signs and symptoms of an esophageal perforation following hernia repair surgery. • Confidential

    Settlement

Gabe Sassin successfully resolved a medical malpractice claim arising from a physician’s failure to recognize the classic signs and symptoms of acute appendicitis. Despite presenting with a clinical picture consistent with appendicitis, the patient was discharged home with an undiagnosed ruptured appendix. The patient returned to the same physician days later in a deteriorated condition, at which point the rupture was finally identified. By then, the delay in diagnosis had allowed the development of an abscess and systemic sepsis. Despite aggressive treatment over the course of three months, the patient ultimately succumbed to overwhelming infection and its complications. The matter was resolved through a confidential pre-suit settlement.

  • Confidential

    Settlement

Gabe Sassin successfully resolved a medical malpractice claim arising from the preventable death of a critically ill patient receiving mechanical ventilator support. Despite the patient’s vulnerable condition, nursing staff and treating physicians failed to adequately monitor and address a six-day absence of bowel function, a deviation from the accepted standard of care that allowed a life-threatening fecal impaction to develop undetected. The resulting bowel rupture triggered septic shock, ultimately causing the patient’s death. The case was resolved through a confidential pre-trial settlement.

  • Confidential

    Settlement

Gabe Sassin successfully resolved a medical malpractice claim against a Texas hospital whose nursing staff failed to account for a surgical sponge left inside the patient following surgery. For nearly two months, the client suffered unexplained pain before the retained sponge was finally identified. What followed was entirely preventable, a second surgery to remove the foreign object, a prolonged hospital stay to treat the resulting infection, and weeks of continued wound care following discharge. The case resolved in the client’s favor before a lawsuit was ever filed, for a confidential amount.

  • Confidential

    Settlement

Gabe Sassin successfully resolved a medical malpractice claim arising from a broken epidural catheter tip left inside a five-month-old infant. The retained fragment went unrecognized until it had migrated to the child’s spine, ultimately requiring an L4-5 hemilaminectomy to remove. The case resolved before a lawsuit was ever filed for a confidential amount.

  • Confidential

    Settlement

Gabe Sassin successfully resolved a medical malpractice claim against a urologist who failed to recognize and respond to persistently elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in his patient. The oversight caused a three-year delay in diagnosis, time during which the cancer advanced unchecked. By the time prostate cancer was finally identified, it had progressed to Stage IV metastatic disease, and the patient ultimately lost his life to a cancer that earlier intervention may have controlled. The case resolved before trial for a confidential amount.

  • Confidential

    Settlement

Gabe Sassin successfully resolved a medical malpractice claim against a major Texas hospital and pediatrician whose nursing staff and attending physician failed to recognize and treat necrotizing enterocolitis, a life-threatening intestinal condition, in a days-old infant. When caught in time, NEC is treatable, and most newborns go on to make a full recovery. Because of the defendants’ failure to act, our client’s daughter never had that chance. The case resolved before trial for a confidential amount.

Fighting for Patients Harmed by the Healthcare System

Despite representing doctors and hospitals for most of his career, Gabe was always drawn to the other side of the courtroom. He felt a persistent pull toward standing up for patients harmed by medical negligence. In 2020, he decided to fully realize that goal and made the shift permanent, dedicating his practice exclusively to representing injury victims.

Medical malpractice is a highly specialized field governed by its own distinct set of rules. Because Gabe spent over a decade defending healthcare providers, he has a rare strategic advantage and unique insight into how each side operates. He understands how doctors, hospitals, and their attorneys think, prepare, and defend. That background allows him to build stronger, more thorough cases for his clients and take a more complete approach to representation.

Memberships and Leadership

Gabe is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association, and other local organizations. When he’s not at work, he enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two boys.
