Hospital Infection
Gabe Sassin successfully resolved a medical malpractice claim arising from the preventable death of a critically ill patient receiving mechanical ventilator support. Despite the patient’s vulnerable condition, nursing staff and treating physicians failed to adequately monitor and address a six-day absence of bowel function, a deviation from the accepted standard of care that allowed a life-threatening fecal impaction to develop undetected. The resulting bowel rupture triggered septic shock, ultimately causing the patient’s death. The case was resolved through a confidential pre-trial settlement.
