Sopanha T. Anderson

Sopanha T. Anderson is a trial attorney at Hastings Law Firm who represents patients and families harmed by medical malpractice, including surgical errors, hospital negligence, catastrophic injuries, and wrongful death. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and is licensed in Texas, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Her experience covers every stage of complex medical negligence litigation, from the first case evaluation through trial, and she has been named to The National Trial Lawyers Top 100.

A Medical Malpractice Attorney Who Gives Patients a Voice

Sopanha is a first-generation attorney and the daughter of immigrants. She grew up with a deep sense of justice, service, and giving a voice to the voiceless, and those values still define how she practices law.

In practice, that means integrity, empathy, and tenacity on every case. Sopanha takes the time to understand what each client has experienced and what the harm has meant for their family. Her goal is the accountability and closure her clients are looking for.

A Career Built Around Medical Malpractice Litigation

Sopanha grew up in the Midwest and earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Her professional career began on Capitol Hill, where she spent two years as a permanent staff member for a U.S. Congressman, before law school brought her back to Minnesota.

At the University of St. Thomas School of Law, she represented seniors and people with disabilities in guardianship and conservatorship cases through the Elder Law Clinic. After earning her Juris Doctor, Sopanha built a legal career centered on advocacy and trial practice.

Much of that practice has been devoted to medical injury cases. Sopanha helped another firm establish and grow its medical malpractice division and secure some of the largest recoveries in that firm’s history for injured patients and their families.

How Sopanha Represents Patients and Families

Sopanha works each case from its first evaluation through trial, bringing thoughtful and relentless advocacy to every step. She never loses sight of the patient or family whose life has been forever changed.

That commitment to her clients has earned Sopanha a reputation as a zealous advocate for injured patients.

Leadership and Service to Military Families

Sopanha is a longtime military spouse. Her family has been stationed in Washington State, Florida, Maryland, Germany, and Texas, and she has sat for multiple bar exams to continue her law practice with each move.

In Texas, she became the first military spouse admitted to practice under the Texas Supreme Court’s new rule for military spouse attorneys. She was sworn in at the Nueces County Courthouse in June 2020.

That experience carries into her work with the Military Spouse JD Network, which helps military spouse attorneys stay in the profession as their families relocate. A member since 2012, Sopanha chaired the network’s 2026 conference and serves as its Community and Events Director. She is also a director on the University of St. Thomas School of Law Alumni Board.
